# **Behind the Scenes of *Invincible*: An Interview with J.K. Simmons, Steven Yeun, and Gillian Jacobs**
For those who enjoy mature superhero narratives, few series encapsulate complexity and originality quite like *Invincible*. It merges intricate characters, heart-pounding action, and outstanding animation to forge one of the top shows presently airing, whether animated or not. However, without the cast delivering their finest performances, *Invincible* would lack its charm and uniqueness. An exceptional ensemble breathes life into the characters, creating an effortless connection that allows viewers to empathize as their universe begins to unravel.
With this perspective, when CGMagazine had the opportunity to engage with **J.K. Simmons** (*Omni-Man*), **Steven Yeun** (*Mark Grayson/Invincible*), and **Gillian Jacobs** (*Atom Eve*), we seized the chance. These performers faced the challenging role of embodying iconic characters on screen, yet they succeeded brilliantly, making it difficult to envision any other voices in these roles. In our discussion, we caught a glimpse into the show’s creation, their enthusiasm for their characters, and a hint of their personal admiration for comic books and animation.

## **What Can Audiences Anticipate in the Upcoming Season of *Invincible*?**
### **J.K. Simmons:**
“We can look forward to an unexpected, and I believe highly amusing and entertaining, partnership with Alan the Alien, as I find myself in somewhat of a confined space with him.”
### **Steven Yeun:**
“I think audiences can anticipate more of what makes the series remarkable: observing young individuals confronting challenging realities, discovering themselves, and navigating the drama that ensues. Plus, there will still be plenty of action-packed scenes.”
### **Gillian Jacobs:**
“Absolutely, and one of my favorite aspects of Robert [Kirkman]’s storytelling and the way this series progresses is that past events continue to resonate, and you’re still aware of their repercussions. So, the beginning of this season will feel linked to where we concluded. We’re still addressing the outcomes from season 2, and the narrative will evolve from there. You’ll have a clear understanding of our starting point when we kick off, if that makes sense.”

## **The Distinct Bond Among an Animated Cast**
In contrast to live-action shoots, animated shows frequently necessitate that actors record their dialogues separately, posing challenges in developing on-set chemistry. Nevertheless, the *Invincible* ensemble has discovered ways to forge connections amidst these hurdles.
### **J.K. Simmons:**
“It’s more of a challenge, in a way. At times during season one, when I was in California, Mark, Sandra, and I had the chance to gather and actually record scenes together, which is uncommon in this genre. I never shared a room with *Seth [Rogen]* at the same time, and we have many interactions in season three. But even just listening to the recording after he’s finished is a real advantage for me, as I can think, ‘Okay, this is how the other character reacts.’”
He humorously remarked, “It’d be entertaining to do this in live-action, but there would be so much cleanup with the blood if we were filming live.”
### **Gillian Jacobs:**
“There are individuals in this show whom I’ve known for quite a while, but I may not have collaborated directly with them before. I still don’t feel like I have, given the nature of the production. *Walton Goggins*, for instance, was one of the first people I encountered in LA, and *Jason Mantzoukas* and I have participated in numerous podcasts together over the years. Even when we’re not recording side by side, you still develop a sense of who they are as actors, and that familiarity and thrill being part of this ensemble is palpable.”
### **Steven Yeun:**
“Regrettably, we don’t have the opportunity to record together as frequently as we should, and many of us find ourselves isolated in our individual booths. But as Gillian mentioned, the cast is truly wonderful. I’ve known Gillian for quite some time, even though I don’t have the chance to see her as often as I wish. Whenever we connect, it’s like, ‘What’s up?’ There exists a mutual understanding that we’re all contributing to something we genuinely believe in, and I think that’s what binds us.”

### **J.K. Simmons:**
“To be completely honest, when I was younger, I wasn’t a big
